Set goals.
Come up with long and short-term goals. Weight-loss goals are great, but it’s beneficial to come up with fitness goals as well. This week you ran three miles, next week you’re going to shoot for four. It helps to write down your goals and track your progress along the way.

Work that core.
Crunches are great, but they aren’t enough to get those washboard abs you’ve always wanted. Pick a workout video that works your entire core and stick to it. Hardcore videos like P90X may seem ideal, but often prove to be unrealistic to stick to daily.

A favorite among beginners and intermediates is “8 Minute Abs.” The video offers a wide variety of exercises that are safe and easy to adjust to. Plus, the 90s outfits add a touch of entertainment.  At just eight minutes a day, you’re lying to yourself if you say you can’t find the time.

Pack your lunch.
While there are healthy options available at restaurants, they are few and far between. Packing a lunch allows you to get creative and control what you’re consuming. It also saves time. Spend the time you’d normally use on dining out to take a walk, do some yoga or sneak in a few crunches. Maybe your spouse will even write you a napkin note like your mom used to.

Practice Pilates.
Pilates is an ideal workout to tone up your tummy. It’s very low impact, but will certainly help you develop flat abdominals and a strong back. It can easily be done in a studio or at home. If you’re new to Pilates, you might want to visit a local studio. At least until you get the hang of things.
